Welsh Assembly Member Turns To QR Codes

Lesley_griffiths_qr_code A Member of the Welsh Assembly is set to become the first politician in Wales - and most probably the UK - to make use of QR (Quick Response) 2D mobile barcode technology to make it easier for her constituents to get in touch with her.
Lesley Griffiths will include the 2D barcode shown to the left on paper communications sent from her office. Anyone with a phone equipped with a QR Code reader will then be able to scan the code to be taken to her website, which contains her office phone number and email address. She says:
QR Codes have become extremely popular in Japan over the last two years, with a phenomenal amount of companies now using them. In the UK, they are just about to breakthrough as more and more mobile phones have the scanning software installed as standard.
I intend to use this technology as a political campaigning tool on leaflet, posters and flyers. I think it will bring a bit of high-tech fun to politics. I believe I am the first politician in Wales - even maybe the UK - to use QR codes to communicate with the public, so the feedback on this will be interesting.
