WAP Site for New Corsa Band
Vauxhall Motors has launched a mobile Internet site as part of its New Corsa campaign that centres on a fictitious puppet band called the CMONS. Profiling each of the characters from the band, the WAP site has been developed by mobile technology company TXT4. The site features a number of free downloads, including wallpapers, screensavers, real tones and video.
The SMS call to action, encouraging consumers to text a keyword to 84464, is featured across Vauxhalls national TV, press and outdoor campaign, with a unique keyword assigned to each channel to allow responses to be tracked.
Following Vauxhalls recent unveiling of the link between the CMONS and the New Corsa, initially promoted separately, the Corsa WAP site is also being updated with reference to the band, as well as a number of features allowing respondents to request a brochure, book a test drive and locate their nearest dealer. The Vauxhall Corsa WAP site is accessible by texting New Corsa to 84464.
The Mobile Internet is advancing continually, and from our experience, is becoming an increasingly popular way for consumers to interact with brands says Vauxhall Digital Marketing Manager, Paul Fitzpatrick. The WAP site we launched in July for the new Corsa pre-launch received a strong response and we were keen to provide the same rich media experience for people wanting to find out more about the CMONS.

The skillful incorporation of
The skillful incorporation of pop-culture and high-value consumer items is an interesting area. Mobile campaigns are increasingly making use of the interstice between those subject areas which are meaningful for A-B bracket consumers, and referencing irony and/or mainstream art for reaching new consumers.
Inventing a band to sell a car is a thoughtful and intelligent way of creating ideological space in the realm of popular cultural myth. Clearly, the viral nature of such campaigns demonstrates the effect these new media creations have had on the very notion mass consumerism.
