TIM Brazil Pilots NFC Mobile Payments
TIM Brazil is to pilot an NFC mobile payments program together with Banco Itaú, MasterCard, Redecard and Gemalto.
The pilot will include 100 restaurants in Rio de Janeiro, and 50 people who will make purchases using NFC-enabled phones. TIM hopes to gradually expand the testing and eventually offer NFC services to its customers later in the year.
“This is just one of the first NFC pilot projects in Latin America and we see it as just the beginning,” said Rodrigo Serna of Gemalto, quoted in NFC World. “With a major player like TIM able to provide NFC services to its large customer base, we are a step ahead in implementing massive mobile contactless services in Brazil.”
