Mastercard Partners with T-Mobile and Orange in Poland for NFC Payments

Mastercard has partnered with T-Mobile and Orange in Poland to create a contactless mobile payment option for consumers.

Together with Orange Polska and mBank, Mastercard will offer Orange Cash, enabling customers to make payments by tapping their phones wherever MasterCard PayPass is accepted.

T-Mobile, which operates under the name of PTC in the country, also recently partnered with Gemalto, to roll out NFC SIMs to its subscribers. Through the Mastercard partnership, it will offer an NFC mPayment option through four banks as part of its MyWallet service.

“2012 has been a significant year for MasterCard as we have put our focus on being the partner of choice for telecommunications service providers around the world,” said Jorn Lambert, Head of Emerging Payments at MasterCard Europe. “The combination of MasterCard’s leading innovation and technologies combined with the technological advancements in the handsets and service provider networks is fuelling the enthusiasm for strong and meaningful partnerships.”

This year, Mastercard has made several partnerships in the mobile marketplace across Europe and in Japan. These include partnerships with Vodafone in Italy to offer NFC MasterCard PayPass; with Turkcell in Turkey to offer Turkcell Wallet; with Everything Everywhere in the UK to develop mobile payment solutions; with Deutsche Telekom in Germany to develop mobile payment options; and with NTT DOCOMO in Japan to expand contactless payments.
