Isis Mobile Wallet Set For September Launch
Mobile wallet joint venture Isis is being tipped for a September launch. The joint venture, between US operators AT&T, Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile, has undergone a series of delays, but it looks like it might finally be about to launch - as least, as a pilot scheme.
VeriFone Systems, the manufacturer of payment terminals involved in the venture, is currently preparing to introduce pilots in two US cities, Salt Lake City, Utah and Austin, Texas, according to a Bloomberg interview with CEO VeriFone Doug Bergeron.
The wallet venture, which uses NFC technology, is the latest project to join the increasingly busy race to push mobile payments into the mainstream. In the last week alone, there's been talk of similar solutions from PayPal, Google and, in the UK, the joint venture between Everything Everywhere, O2 and Vodafone plans, which has undegone similar delays due to scrutiny from the European Union.
