Ad Revenue on Sports Apps and Sites Tripled to 14 Per Cent of Revenue
This year, 44 per cent of impressions on Opera's platform were served on iOS devices, according to its State of Mobile Advertising report for 2012. By comparison, just 29 per cent were served on Android - leaving 23 per cent between the other platforms.
The iPhone 5 generated 16 per cent of all iPhone device traffic, desite only launching four months ago, and iOS 6 accounted for 65 per cent of all iOS ad requests. The iPhone delivered the most demand for iOS impressions but the iPad has higher eCPMs than its competitors.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S3 accounted for eight per cent of all Android traffic - not bad for a device which only launched in May.
The fastest growing category of apps and sites was Sports, which started out the year accounting for less than four per cent of revenue, but now brings in 14 per cent of monthly revenue on the platform. Music and video generated the greatest number of mobile impressions, 23.8 per cent, along with 15 per cent of revenues.
The US still accounts for 65 per cent of impressions served, declining from 73 per cent at the beginning of the year. Opera identifies Russia and Ukraine as big emerging markets for mobile advertising, with both seeing a 95 per cent growth in monthly impression volumes over the year.
