Intuit Provides Mobile Payments for StartUp Britain

Emma Jones, co-founder of StartUp Britain, with the ministersEmma Jones, co-founder of StartUp Britain, with the ministersIntuit will provide mobile payments for StartUp Britain’s pop-up shop campaign to support small businesses and rejuvenate the high street.

The partnership was announced at the opening of a PopUp Britain store based in the Department for Communities and Local Government in London's Victoria. The store will be open for at least a year, with six businesses setting up and trialling their wares every fortnight.

All of the tenants will be able to use the Intuit Pay app and card reader for free while they are trading here, enabling them to take secure credit and debit card payments using mobile.

“Pop-up tenants need to be able to accept card payments but it can take weeks to get set up, the equipment and transactions can be expensive and require long-term contracts," said Mark Little, UK MD of Intuit.

"Intuit is proud to support PopUp Britain with Intuit Pay, giving these start-up retailers a way to get set up in minutes to securely take card payments on their smart phone or tablet – with no commitment and no contracts. With Intuit Pay, now anyone can accept card payments.”

Intuit recently began a pilot of its service in the UK. The partnership with StartUp Britain may give the company an edge over competitors if its payment solution is adopted by the 330 Town Teams established by Eric Pickles at the DCLG to try and revive Britain's high streets.
