Garuda Indonesia Brings Mobile and Wi-fi Services On Board

International airline Garuda Indonesia is installing OnAir’s mobile and internet services on its fleet of 28 A330 aircrafts flying to destinations across Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

OnAir establishes a connected zone within the airline, using an on-board piocell. Passengers’ phones can only connect to the piocell, and a central server interfaces with the aircraft system to establish an air-to-ground link, using a satellite communications system to allocate air-to-ground resources. The system allows passengers to use their mobile devices as they would on the ground.

“Garuda Indonesia is a highly respected and long-established airline in Asia Pacific, so the fact that OnAir has been selected to provide its passenger connectivity after a thorough analysis underlines the strength of our connectivity solutions,” said Ian Dawkins, CEO of OnAir. “Connectivity is now a must-have for any airline wishing to offer the most up-to-date cabin services."

The first installation will take place in November.
