DIY Mini-mags on Your Mobile

Tocmag, a free service that allows anyone to create mini-magazines for mobiles, has launched in the UK today.
The magazines can be filled with up to six pages of text, photos, audio and video. Anyone with access to a computer and the Internet can build a Tocmag in as little as five minutes. Once created, Tocmags can be downloaded via mobile internet to a limitless number of phones, and are stored on the phone’s memory, so they can be read even when the user is out of mobile coverage. Tocmags can be viewed on any phone with any level of Java.
During the service’s Beta testing phase, 10,872 Tocmags were built and 123,523 downloads made, all generated by word-of-mouth recommendation. Tocmag now has users in more than 20 countries.
Available Tocmags include virtual business cards, travellers’ logbooks, including photos, video and commentary to send to friends and family at home, ‘Private’ Tocmags exchanged between couples, and even a weekly church newsletter. The possibilities, says Three o’c Clock Mobile, which created the service, are endless.
“Tocmag is what mobile users have been waiting for: a free service to develop mobile content,” says Tocmag founder Brad Ells. “People will now be able to create and store content-rich messages on their mobiles, full of text, photos and even videos. It certainly beats SMS or MMS messaging."

Comments

After reading about Tocmag here I wanted to try it out. I found the site easy to use and service brilliant. I created and downloaded my tocmag in under 5 minutes and all for free. I have to confess after building mine I spent a while looking around the top 100 and downloading other peoples mags - what a great idea. This is billed as the "Mobile Myspace".. I think it could be.
